Mooditation

The inspiration for this week’s micro-story came from an experience I had many years ago when giving a talk on meditation to a small group in a coastal town. One unlikely attendee was a farmer, whose name I can no longer remember, who shared with me one of the best methods of meditation I had ever heard.

He would either sit next to one of his cows and press his ear against her flank, tuning into the animal’s internal life processes. Or he would sit on the ground amongst his chickens and revel in the sweet cooing sounds they made around him. Here was a farmer, with a sun-blasted face and a large stature looming over us, explaining his personal meditation techniques.

I just loved it and will cherish this memory forever. Therefore, today’s micro-story is dedicated to that farmer and to every person who finds interesting and unusual ways of practising meditation, across all walks of life.
